Wallace D. Wattles was an American author, a new thought writer. He can be somewhat difficult to understand but his writing has been widely quoted and remains in print in the New Thought and self-help movements. His book "The Science of Getting Rich" has become increasingly popular in the last few years since Rhonda Byrne created "The Secret". I know I had never heard of it until I watched the secret and began exploring for more information on the law of attraction.
It was actually this book that inspired Rhonda Byrne to create the secret so it's only fitting that it would also gain exposure after the movie came out. The book is not something that you can read quickly and understand within hours. It was written almost 100 years ago so some of the language is a little dated and needs to be translated in your head first. It's also a book with ideas that need to be pondered over until you realize what they mean and what you can take from it.
I love it when he writes "There is nothing wrong in wanting to get rich. The desire for riches is really the desire for a richer, fuller, and more abundant life. And that desire is praiseworthy. The person who does not desire to live more abundantly is abnormal, and so the person who does not desire to have money enough to buy all he wants is abnormal."
To me that is such a truth that is never spoken. It's been engrained in us to feel bad about wanting to buy that expensive car we want or that boat we would love to be riding in. It's greediness to excessively desire acquiring or possessing things, especially wishing to possess more than what one needs or deserves.
He follows that statement with "There are three motives for which we live: We live for the body, we live for the mind, we live for the soul. No one of these is better or holier than the other; all are alike desirable, and no one of the three, body, mind, or soul, can live fully if either of the others is cut short of full life and expression. It is not right or noble to live only for the soul and deny mind or body, and it is wrong to live for the intellect and deny body or soul."
A person who lives for all three cannot help but be an aware and kind person. How could you be spiritual but not share your wealth? People in history have obviously lived for their mind and body and ignored their soul but I feel that at this time in our world we are moving towards complete love and anyone who is going along on this journey of self awareness is already made up of love.
He goes on to explain that there is a science to getting rich and when you read it you know there's a truth to it. That's because there is. Trust your feelings and once you experience it you will fully believe it.
I know that most people don't have the time to sit down and read a full book no matter how much they intend to. That's why the world has invented audio books. They not only make it easier for us to get the information while we're on the move but they offer a way of taking in the information that may work better for some people then reading would.
