Everyone should have at least one fur blanket in his or her home. Have you noticed how these lovely soft and nicely colored accessories have seemingly appeared in every home store over recent years?

And if you spend a little time being "a fly on the wall" in these stores you'll see that nobody can walk past them without reaching out for a stroke. I'm not joking. It's not just kids who enjoy the feel of a cuddly toy. You see people of all ages and both sexes reach out to stroke fur blankets, almost as it is a reflexive action. They feel good; they have a comforting effect.

And also in those home stores and furniture stores an increasing number of cuddly toys have begun to appear. I happen to have rather a good supply of these scattered around my home, including some little bears that bear the name "cuddle cubs".

I have frequently found myself chuckling over the fact that even the most unlikely person will find themselves absent-mindedly stroking these cuddle cubs where they are placed on the arm of the sofa; or more often they end up finding their way onto their laps! At times the person will look up with an embarrassed expression and exclaim, "What on earth am I doing?"

What indeed! We know that to stroke a dog or a cat has a soothing effect upon the majority of people. We know that children become attached to certain cuddly toys and won't go to sleep without cuddling them. This isn't just because they look cute; they have a soothing and relaxing effect. Perhaps this is because they are warm and familiar.

The "why" part doesn't really matter. What is relevant and important to appreciate is that be it in the form of a cuddly toy or a blanket, fur feels nice when stroked and has a warm and soothing effect upon ones psyche. Because of this it is a very quick and easy way in which one can relax and de-stress.

Who-ever instigated this trend of fur blankets hit on a great idea. For the adult who might be too embarrassed to admit to stroking a cuddly toy, they can now easily purchase its grown up and adult looking counterpart!

These types of easy ways to de-stress quickly are becoming increasingly more important in a fast paced world. People don't want to take the time to relax; they don't think they can afford the time for such "luxuries". But soothing ones senses is not a luxury; it is in fact a necessity.

There are many ways in which one can de-stress. Stroking a fur blanket is one of them. Self hypnosis is another.
