Stress: It is estimated that 13.5 million working days a year are lost as a result of stress. In Britain, it is estimated that one in six workers suffers with stress and those same people underperform at work by more than 30 per cent

Under Pressure: In a survey of 2,372 people, 99 per cent admitted feeling stressed out at some point every day. The survey found one in four people felt stressed for up to 30 minutes a day. Plus, because of stress, 49 per cent said they gained weight and 42 percent reported relationship trouble. It seems those in their thirties are worst affected, as they are fraught with anxiety about heavy workloads, job security, childcare and fear of failure.

Everyday Stress: The strains of modern day living, hectic lifestyles and the pressures of juggling a demanding job, social and family life are virtually unavoidable. Because everyday stress and strains increase the body’s nutritional requirements, the daily diet should include B vitamins, Vitamin C and certain amino acids to ensure that the body gets the nutrients it needs to respond appropriately. Where the diet may be lacking, a supplement can safeguard the dietary intake of these important nutrients. B vitamins help your body respond to demanding situations and vitamin C is required for the production of adrenaline.

Emotional Stress: Find a quite corner somewhere, sit down and count ten breaths – in and out counts as one. They don’t have to be big, deep breaths, just even and regular. Usually after about six or seven breaths you lose count and feel quite different. Your pulse rate slows down, your mind calms itself and your awareness comes back to your body. The problem may have even gone away, if not you will be much better placed to deal with it.

Effects of Stress on Companies: Stress cost industry over $150 billion a year in the US alone – through absenteeism and reduced levels of performance by those who are physically present but mentally absent. In the UK, as much as 60 per cent of all absenteeism is believed to be caused by stress related disorders. Anything that can reduce the damaging effects of stress makes workers happier and companies richer.

Emotion Signs of Stress: can include general irritability, acute anxiety attacks, depression, lack of libido, loss of a sense of humour, and an inability to concentrate on the simplest of routine task. Some of the most common indications of stress are: Becoming unnecessarily over-emotional or aggressive in conflict situations; Lost of interest in personal appearance, other people, social events, or previously enjoyed activities; Poor concentration, difficulty in remembering and an inability to make decisions; Sadness, guilt, fatigue, apathy and a pronounced feeling of helplessness or failure; Loss of confidence in personal ability, often coupled with lack of self-worth.

Stress brought on by dieting: is added to the personal and work life stresses that we face every day, often resulting in a "vicious cycle" of increased stress and increased food intake. Here are some things you can do: Tell yourself you'll wait 10 to 30, minutes to eat. Chances are good if your cravings are only stress-related they'll disappear when you allow yourself to become distracted; Keep a food journal of what you eat each day. Knowing you have to write down every

snack or nibble can be a good way to remind yourself to think before eating. Keep yourself nourished. Eat regular, healthy snacks to maintain your energy level. Skipping meals while under stress only prompts you to eat more, and unhealthily, when you do get around to eating; physically remove tempting food items from your home or office. Never go shopping while hungry and always make a list of food items prior to shopping; bring home only what you feel good about eating.

Clive Harman has more facts on herbal remedies here: http://www.booksabouthealth.info/ stressfacts.html

Publish this article: Facts and Tips about Stress

Moving house is always a stressful situation to find oneself in. It becomes even more stressful if the home that you are about to leave is one that you have built or lived in for many years.

To part with your family home can feel like cutting away a large chunk of your past. The act of selling that home feels so final. Your home has so many memories associated with it and you somehow feel closer to those times when you are within those walls. To move on to a new home reflects a huge change in both life and perspective.

Inevitably as you grow older you are more likely to find yourself in this type of situation. You perhaps no longer require the space that your family home affords, or can no longer manage to look after that space as easily as you had in the past. The kids have long grown up and embarked upon a life of their own. It can also feel lonely in a large family home with no kids to create noise and distractions.

Sometimes such a move is linked to the passing on of a spouse and this inevitably adds more emotional turmoil to the thought of moving. It is like you are cutting further away from your loved one and you can become afraid that your memories will fade. Logically you know that you need to move and that it is the most sensible decision, but this logical understanding does not make the emotional leap any the easier.

Friends and family will also have their input in your decision. Most will support your decision and do what they can to help. But sometimes ones offspring find the idea of parting with that family home difficult to handle too. Emotions can run high and stress levels soar.

What can you do to relieve this type of stress? This emotional turmoil isn't made up. It is very real indeed and can keep you lying awake in bed at night questioning your decision and making it difficult to cope. A little understanding of the roles of logic and emotion will help one to appreciate what he or she can do to relax and relieve this stress.

When you feel upset or worried about something a hormonal reaction takes place in your mind and body. This happens automatically. In recognizing that this emotional reaction is normal, you can choose to take a conscious step back and apply your mind to soothing these physical reactions.

Breathing deeply, meditating or using self-hypnosis are great ways in which to do just this. They are great because they are easy. Hypnosis in particular can play a huge role in assisting you as you can take the process a step further. You can use this receptive state to implant suggestions into your subconscious mind to reassure yourself that everything is going to be all right.

When you have a friend or spouse who is suffering from depression you inevitably feel more than a little helpless. You want to do something that will point them in the right direction but how do you do that and what do you do?

You can't decide whether to try to push them to "make more of an effort" or nurse them or attempt to do things for them. You try to encourage and to cajole. You try to push and to pull them back to "normal". It is easy to transition into a situation of co-dependency, or for you to become their "mother", their "nurse" or their "fixer".

Depression is difficult for an outsider to understand. You look into another person's world and see how much they have or how good their life should be. Yet that person who is suffering from depression clearly does not see things in quite the same light.

And whatever you do in your efforts to assist has an impact upon the depressed person. You are in danger of making that person feel guilty or pressurized or backed into an ever-smaller corner. They may feel that they have been "taken over" by you are your actions.

However difficult it might be for you, it is sometimes best to take a step back and allow the depressed person to deal with their issues in their own way. The most important thing to ensure is that you do not sink into a state of co-dependency whereby you are feeding the other person's depression and prolonging their suffering. If you are a "fixer" or a "pleaser" this is exactly what you are most in danger of doing.

I remember a couple where the spouse believed that the depressed person couldn't choose her clothes in the morning, couldn't choose a meal, etc. Yet when a total outsider entered the equation and told the depressed person that they had to dress themselves and must choose a meal (and prevented the spouse from taking charge of these simple actions) she managed to do both quite easily.

In addition, she quickly got a whole lot better once she discovered that she wasn't as incapable and dependent as she had previously thought. I'm not saying that this method helps everyone with depression. It does however typify the co-dependency problem.

In reality you can be there to talk things through with when they are ready and try to suggest different appropriate methods of assistance. You can keep an eye on them so that you are as aware as you possibly can be of their state of mind and protect them in this manner from going over the edge, so to speak. There are different types of depression and different degrees of depression that a sufferer experiences.

When people around you are being negative it helps to remember that you don't have to listen to or be affected by them. You do not have to respond in kind. Negativity is not successfully fought with negativity. Rather, negativity will only be successfully fought and won over by positivity.

It also helps to remember that each person is on his or her own pathway through life. Each individual person is experiencing life and responding to it in his or her own way and at his or her own level. Their behavior and actions are a result of their own beliefs and expectations that will no doubt be different from yours.

If a person says or does something that you find hurtful you will frequently find that they did not really intend you to experience it in that manner. Not everybody has reached a point in their own awareness and evolution to see things from perspectives other than their own. When you encounter a person like this, instead of feeling hurt or disappointed (which are of course negative responses) you can choose to respond in a more positive manner.

There are a range of positive responses from which you could choose. You could point out to that person in a nice way the potential impact of their actions or behavior. You could forgive them in your thoughts and wish them all the best but at the same time step back from them in flesh so as to no longer move within the reach of their negativity.

When you give the matter due consideration, there are in fact many way in which you can survive negativity through positive response and action. In contrast, the only way in which to lose is to allow yourself to respond in a negative manner.

As a friend pointed out today you will only be able to respond to such situations in a positive way if you have a strong sense of self. You have to know who you are. You have to know your own worth. This inner confidence is your true armor that deflects negativity and keeps you safe and secure in your world. It allows you to be happy and successful and to raise your head above negative influences.

The possession of a strong sense of self allows you to easily sort the wheat from the chaff. Inner self-confidence and high self esteem allows you to be relaxed and to enjoy each moment without getting upset or angry at circumstances that are outside of your control. You in effect steer your own boat instead of floating along being buffeted in each and every direction by the changing tides of life.

Self-esteem and self-confidence are not attributes that you are born with. They are learned and developed through experience. If you have been unfortunate and missed out upon that positive experience there is something you can do about it. Hypnosis is a great help in accessing your subconscious mind and implanting positive suggestions therein.

A fear of heights can be extremely debilitating depending upon how severely you are affected. Each person is unique and will experience the symptoms of fear in their own individual way.

A friend described to me how heights made her feel as if she was being "sucked into them". She vividly described the sensations she experienced as a child when venturing onto a balcony at her own family home. This particular balcony was not protected by a solid wall, but rather one horizontal railing supported by several vertical posts.

Despite being almost paralyzed by fear she felt herself being pulled towards the edge, as if she was going to be sucked through the railings and fall into the abyss below. Even as she tried to back away into the safety of the house she could feel an invisible force pulling her forwards to the edge of the railings.

Much later in life my friend now experiences these exact same sensations in situations where she is above ground level and there is some sort of open balcony or open vista unprotected by a solid wall. So long as she cannot see "down and through" a barrier, heights do not affect her negatively in any way. In certain situations she has learned that so long as she doesn't look down, and instead keeps her line of sight directed to a distant horizon she will also be perfectly fine.

This also demonstrates how each person finds their own ways of working around their fears and finding their own way of coping. Some people manage this so well that their fears rarely affect them at all. Other people aren't so lucky and live a life whereby they feel imprisoned by their fears.

The more your fear of heights affects you the harder you tend to search for a cure. There is one big obstacle that usually gets in the way. Most people who suffer from intangible problems, like fears, tend to simply think, "This is just how I am" and "There is nothing I can do about it". Thus, despite seeking a cure and desperately wishing for a cure they secretly believe that there is no such thing.

This type of underlying belief really does create a huge barrier to finding a cure. Unnecessary fears are in the first place caused by another erroneous belief system that was originally created as a result of some past experience. The experience that lies at the root of your fear may reside in your conscious or your subconscious mind. You may or may not be consciously aware of it.

To be able to cure your fear of heights (or cure any other fear of phobia) you have to find a way in which to change these belief systems. Hypnosis is a particularly useful tool in this regard as it allows the user to access their subconscious mind. This is the part of your mind where deep-rooted beliefs and expectations are stored. It is from this inner part of your mind that your fears are triggered.

Hypnosis is natural and it is easy to use. There are no negative side effects either. If you suffer from a fear of heights why not try hypnosis?

Fears have the power to root a person to the spot. Fears are not only frightening, they can be totally debilitating. But there are strategies that you can utilize to enable you to step back and hold steady in the face of things that used to frighten you.

Fears should be treated with respect. Your mind triggers the emotion of fear as a means of alerting you to protect yourself from perceived and potential danger. However, just because your mind has detected what it thinks might be a potential danger, this does not mean that this danger is real. Sometimes our minds act over-zealously when focused upon self-protection.

In view of this, many fears may be rationalized and released, purely by stepping back and looking at matters from a different angle. In many cases you will be aware that you are experiencing the effects of fear in a situation that you consciously know should not be triggering this automatic response.

For example, you might be afraid of having an injection or vaccination. You might get really anxious about taking exams or a driving test. You might be afraid of heights or of flying. Rationally, you know you shouldn’t on balance be afraid...but you are afraid, or even terrified. You will also know that no matter how much you try to rationalize your fears you cannot seem to get your mind around these feelings.

To enable you to step back and release your mental grip upon your fear, hypnosis is extremely helpful. Hypnosis allows you to relax and take a mental step back. Hypnosis also provides an easy way for you to access your subconscious mind. This is the part of your mind where instinctive thought patterns and behaviors are stored; the part where your fear triggers are stored.

Thus with hypnosis you are provided with a way in which to unlock those automated reactions to erroneously perceived threat or danger, and relax your responses. You can in this way overcome your fears and respond to situations in a calm and controlled manner. Treating fears with hypnosis is a simple and straightforward process.

Not every person is easy to deal with. Far from it! Some people have open, sunny and easy-going personalities whilst others remain constantly shielded by a potentially prickly outer shell.

When dealing with the more prickly type of person it pays to remember that you should never take it personality. It is just how they are. It is how they respond in general, not just towards you. In remembering this basic fact you immediately avoid being rubbed up the wrong way or moving into a defensive mode. Either of these reactions would only serve to make matters worse.

The key factor to appreciate when dealing with prickly people is that everyone has their own viewpoint and their own reasons for being how they are. Thinking in terms of what is fair, right, morally correct and the likes doesn't help you to understand the other person.

Trying to see things through their eyes, on the other hand, will give you a far greater insight into them and enable you to communicate better and create a far easier and more rewarding relationship. Stop thinking about how it "should" be and accept things are they are. And don't expect them to repay the compliment and automatically see it from your side either!

As you remain calm, relaxed and confident in yourself, you will find that your own feathers will remain unruffled even when the most difficult person is being prickly around you. You will also find it easier to identify ways in which to disarm their prickliness and get them to relax with you.

Without a sparring partner they will find it difficult to spar and eventually will give up trying to do so. A turkey cock will only put on a display when he thinks he has an interested audience.

Having confidence in yourself allows you to remain unruffled. A confident person worries little about what others think or why they are being difficult. With confidence you do not take these things personally. Rather, you can let these situations go, like water running off a ducks back.

Inevitably shy or nervous people are those who are most affected by these prickly types. Underlying shyness there is always a fear of having done something wrong. Thus the very prickliness of the other person triggers an unconscious alarm bell that in fact makes them feel both guilty and uncomfortable.

The shy person most probably realizes at a conscious level that they have done nothing wrong and that it is just the other person’s personality. But subconsciously they still feel uncomfortable, making it difficult to relax, let go and mentally step back from the situation.

Hypnosis is a very helpful tool in learning how to step back and also in building self-confidence. These are key ingredients in dealing with other people and creating good relationships.

Do You Work Well Under Pressure? Pressure can take many forms and have an even greater variety of effects. There's emotional pressure, time constraints, dead lines to meet, expectations to be fulfilled and endless tasks that may have to be juggled. Some pressure is entirely of our own choosing and making whilst at other times we feel as if we are being buffeted by outside forces.

I was sent a photograph by a friend yesterday of her graduation. She has spent the last three or four years completing an MBA in her spare time whilst also holding down an important and many would say stressful full time job. A lot of "time juggling" went on in her life; of that I'm sure, between her employment, MBA work, her husband, family, hobbies and friends. I don't think I have seen such a beaming smile in a graduation photograph before!

The pressures she had dealt with were of her own choosing and she coped with them brilliantly. It was still pressure though and a huge relief to get that MBA over and done with.

Another friend mentioned in passing the effect of emotional pressure upon her life. Her father had passed away and also a couple of other friends and relatives in a fairly short period of time. She passed the comment that she just couldn’t seem to concentrate. She couldn’t focus. Even her golf game had "gone to pot".

Emotional pressure is probably the worst type of pressure to deal with, and it doesn't just affect you in the confines of your own home. Losing someone you love is stressful. Even when a distant acquaintance passes away you inevitably have an emotional reaction. As someone commented the other day "I never used to know where my black tie was. Now I do". He was making the point that he was becoming concerned about how vulnerable we are in life and what a fragile hold upon it we have.

Stress at work and pressure in the work place is inevitable in the current financial conditions. Countries teeter on the verge bankruptcy, yet alone States and smaller enterprises. Employees frequently work longer hours for lower wages, slashed bonuses and reduced pensions. They also make the effort to become better qualified and so more invaluable to their bosses. There is a lot of unusual pressure in the workplace, on top of the pressures that always existed in business.

You have to learn how to compartmentalize your work. You have to be able to switch off and relax and not take your work home. You have to be able to let go of worries and fears and make the most of the situation. Whilst some people have the "knack" for doing this, others are not so lucky. Some people dwell upon the pressures and suffer beneath their weight.

Using self-hypnosis is a very real way to relax, switch off and change your focus. Hypnosis in itself is a state of relaxation and so just by using hypnosis you will immediately feel calm and peaceful. Additionally hypnosis provides access to your subconscious mind that enables you to change your instinctive thought patterns, reactions and behaviors. Hypnosis provides a very efficient method of coping with pressure.

By: Roseanna Leaton
Category: Stress Management

Times of recession often lead to times of depression. They even get called periods of depression, like the Great Depression that began in America with the Wall Street Crash in 1929. But depressed spirits are exactly what you cannot afford to entertain at such a time. You desperately need to have a positive attitude so as to be able to put up a fight.

Money worries can run away with you, if you allow them to do so, and lead to many health issues, ranging from depression to anxiety, stress and even to suicide. It is vitally important to be able to alter your focus, change your attitude and lift your spirits when facing such tough times.

And tough times are certainly here in the Western World now, in 2011. We are bombard with facts relating to financial woes. Whole States and countries are in massive debt positions, currencies are being devalued and for many individuals this means that everything that they have worked for is collapsing around them. Their societal structure is in ruins.

Employees are accepting pay cuts instead of receiving pay rises and bonuses. There are no jobs to be had for the willing students who seek part time employment. Full time jobs are harder to obtain no matter what your level of qualification is. You potential are in a position of negative equity over home and investments. It's hard to know what to do or how to respond and climb out of such a widespread problem.

But even so, to allow this worry to impact upon your health only makes matters worse. Inevitably the more cautious natured person, those who are inherently careful and more prone to worry and anxiety, are affected the most. The more devil-may-care people respond more favorably and find it easier to remain hopeful and turn the situation into a kind of exciting challenge.

Everyone becomes impacted in one way or another. The big question is what can you do to preserve your equilibrium in other ways and maintain good health?

What some people do automatically is "switch off" their worries. They have the ability to compartmentalize things within their mind. Everyone can learn to do this and hypnosis makes this more easily achievable.

Hypnosis is a natural state of relaxation that you can use to relieve worries, soothe anxieties and switch off from fears. You can listen to a hypnosis mp3 to relax easily and to build more of a positive expectation and lift your spirits in general. In this way you can guard against the cycle of negative health issues that can be caused by unchecked worries.

This might not seem very much in the way of assistance in such circumstances. But your attitude paves the way to your reality. In a situation that appears very much like a "sink or swim" scenario, hypnosis could be just the thing that keeps you afloat.

Roseanna Leaton, specialist in hypnosis mp3 downloads for health, happiness and well-being.
