The subject of hypnosis is one that naturally seems to attract a high degree of dissention and controversy. Many people quite simply do not think that there is such a thing as hypnosis. They think that it is a trick show, a con, something which people just go along with for a laugh.

But then there are others who do believe that hypnosis is indeed real, but are not quite sure how to go about proving it. The proof of the pudding for them is in the eating. They have tried hypnosis for themselves and found it to work. But they find it difficult to prove its efficacy to others who are less positive and more doubting.

They see those other people as negative and unwilling to see things from a different viewpoint, fearful of trying something different or even giving it a chance. But those who argue that hypnosis is just a figment of one’s imagination will reply that it's just a placebo and those who think it's working for them are simply very gullible and suggestible.

For those who have used hypnosis effectively and are living proof of its value, it can be more than a little frustrating to hear these arguments being voiced time and again. Like anything that is seemingly subjective or intangible, hypnosis can be rather difficult to prove, other than in the reality of the outcomes achieved through its use.

Few people realize that there is medical research that proves that hypnosis itself is real. In 2009 researchers at Hull University in the UK found that hypnosis has a "real brain effect". These researchers employed brain-scanning equipment whilst subjects were requested to undergo certain activities using hypnosis.

This research points to the fact that rather than the individual subject purely being suggestible, hypnosis "primes" the brain to be open to suggestion. This is the conclusion that Dr. Michael Heap came to as a result of this study.

In fact, the study leader Dr. William McGeown also noted that their research shows that the changes were due to hypnosis and not just simple relaxation. In effect this 2009 study shows hypnosis is real. And this puts paid to the other argument that many non-believers proffer against hypnosis; that it is just relaxation.

It is good for us all to see this type of research being conducted. Hypnosis is a very real therapeutic aid and can be employed to achieve a good many benefits in both mind and body. Hypnosis should not be scoffed at or ignored. Rather, hypnosis should, and is, being used by a massively increasing number of people worldwide.

By: Roseanna Leaton
Category: Inspirational

Dreams can easily be interpreted if you really wish to put your mind to this task. Dreams can tell you a lot about ongoing not quite conscious emotional challenges and musings. As you dream your mind is working through things that have recently come into your attention and awareness and fitting them into the pool of knowledge already stored within your mind.

Your dreaming mind is putting together intellectual and emotional impulses and creating a true meeting of the minds. The emotional, feeling and imagination focused part meets and mingles with the logical and factual part of the mind. Unconscious and conscious thoughts come together in your dreams.

The dream itself can be seen as an expression of the mind attempting to resolve conflicts, be they things that you are only too well aware of or others which are seemingly well hidden. The easiest way in which to interpret your dream is to seek out the feeling that has been solicited and then cast your mind back to whence in the last couple of days you might have been aware of that same feeling. The actual facts of the dream rarely provide as many clues as that given by the emotional impact.

By seeking to find the emotional impact of your dreams you can use your dreams more intelligently. They will provide clues to the emotions that you are perhaps hiding from yourself or not quite at one with. Once faced, those emotions will become easy to confront and deal with.

We often hide things from ourselves. We turn a blind eye, a deaf ear and also sweep things under the carpet. We turn our backs towards things that we do not like. In many cases this ability to look the other way, or to turn the other cheek, is extremely helpful and beneficial. Sometimes though by hiding we can dig ourselves a little too deep into an inappropriate hiding hole.

When you have a recurring theme to your dreams or a recurring emotion is experienced, this is the time to really take a look at your dreams. Clearly, your dreams are telling you that thee is some sort of conflict that hasn’t gone away and doesn’t want to go away. Ask yourself what is causing you to feel that emotion. What might be triggering that feeling?

What can you do to change it or make things feel a little better? You will frequently find that the big issue is that you haven’t yet accepted the truth or inevitability of a certain situation. Once you really think about it and make the decision to accept whatever it is, then you will no longer experience this conflict within your dreams.

If you have trouble accepting something then hypnosis can be a great help. Hypnosis is similar to dreaming in that it allows access to your subconscious mind. Hypnosis allows you to more easily use your imagination too. With hypnosis you can take a step back, relax and begin to see things from a different angle.

You might say that you can turn a blind eye or deaf ear and simply neither see nor hear what is going on. Alternatively you might perhaps see what is happening but not allow yourself to feel any emotional response to the situation. You could see something that is happening but interpret its meaning quite differently to that which is obvious. And of course, you could turn tail and flee.

There are probably many more ways which one could find so as to avoid a reality which you do not wish to deal with. In the movie "Black Swan" you can see how someone might find a release of emotion is enabled by drawing blood; most people do not experience this reaction, but for some people self-harm is used to provide some form of release and relief.

It is not uncommon for a person to choose to focus on a physical symptom of something as opposed to tracking down emotional causes. It is an easy way in which one can turn a blind eye and run away from reality whilst at the same time kidding yourself that you are in fact doing everything that you can to help yourself.

We get colds and flu like symptoms and simply take pills and potions to alleviate the symptoms without thinking to look at the root causes and employ some form of preventative measures. We suffer from anxiety and depression and many of us are more likely to take pills than to look inside our minds and see what is actually causing our issues.

And so although one can see how it is possible to run away from reality in many different ways, it is also clear that we create our own reality in the way in which we choose to focus. The reality which we create is based upon how we chose to see the world. This is our own unique and personal reality. For us it is real, whereas an observer may say that we have simply made it up through the way in which we have chosen to focus.

Once we understand that we do indeed create our own reality through our choice of observation and focal points, we can also appreciate that we can also change our reality simply by changing the way in which we think.

By: Roseanna Leaton
Category: Inspirational

We have all been there and felt the effects of low motivation, fear, insecurity, low enthusiasm or sluggishness. These are all possible causes of the debilitating effects of procrastination.

Procrastination is a symptom as well as a cause. It is a symptom caused by underlying emotions, but at the same time it is in fact the biggest cause of failure. Everyone fears failure; nobody likes or looks forward to failure. And yet many of us embrace the very thing which we fear through allowing procrastination to shackle us and completely stall our progress.

Procrastination does more that simply inhibit our actions. It freezes and immobilizes us. We know what we want but cannot seem to make ourselves take action to achieve those goals. Some inner voice seems to have taken hold and stills our movement and silences our voices.

If you want to stop procrastinating then you have to seek out that inner voice and discover exactly what it is saying and why it is saying it. You have to learn to listen and to tune into what it is really saying to you. If that inner voice is telling you that it's going to be too much effort then you need to ask yourself why you think that and what could you do so as to see things from a different angle.

Similarly, if that inner voice is telling you that you are afraid, then you have to ask what you are really afraid of and why and also how you could overcome that fear. Procrastination may be caused by many different emotions and you have to be willing to take control of your own mind to discover what lies at the root of your own experience of procrastination. Unless you do this you cannot fail to fail.

Hypnosis provides a tool which enables its user to look into one's own mind and uncover what might otherwise remain unconscious (and therefore uncontrolled) forces which have the power to either propel or inhibit actions. With hypnosis you can get to the root of what really causes procrastination and also discover new ways in which to think and overcome past fears, anxieties and inhibitions in general.

If you want to stop procrastinating and make the best of your potential then simply listening to a hypnosis download is a very good place in which to start. You can in this way introduce yourself to hypnosis and its great benefits; you can learn how to control your own mind and your own emotions.

By: Roseanna Leaton
Category: Inspirational

I had lunch with a friend yesterday who made the observation that I appear to be a very calm person; that nothing seems to faze me. She also asked if I thought that working as a hypnotherapist and psycho analyst for twenty odd years had helped me to deal with things in a more calm and positive manner than might otherwise have been the case. The answer is a definite yes.

If you spend time working to help other people to think in more powerful and productive ways, you inevitably benefit from this yourself. When your focus is positive and you repeat positive things again and again they do sink in, even if those things are actually directed at somebody else. One example which highlights this effect very clearly is that of golf psychology.

I am a golfer and have worked with many fellow golfers. I have always, without exception, found that I play significantly better in any week following a golf mind session with a client. It's like having a refresher course for yourself!

No matter what your natural temperament is everyone can learn to think in a way which empowers you to make many a positive change. My friends observation about me made me think about my own natural temperament and how it has changed over the years. Naturally, from when I was a little girl, I was pretty shy as well as quite anxious and nervous. Timid is probably the best description of me as a child.

I have learned to change this instinctive reaction so well that in most instances my automatic reaction is calm, confident and positive. In fact that old timidity very rarely appears. Not only that, I don't have to try to think in a calm and positive way; it is how I am and I'm comfortable being me.

I'm sharing my story purely to demonstrate that even basic, deep-rooted traits of temperament really can be changed with a little consistent effort. We all have the ability to change the ways in which we think and feel about ourselves and the way in which we act. Hypnosis does indeed make this process easier and quicker as it provides easy access to your subconscious mind.

The more deep rooted the trait is which you wish to change or alter, then the deeper you need to delve into your mind and the more effort you will need to apply to the process of installing new and more powerful thoughts, dreams and beliefs. That is pure common sense, isn't it? It takes more effort to lift a large boulder than it does to pick up a small pebble off the beach. A big change requires a big effort, but this does not mean that it is impossible.

With the right mind set and the right tools you really can change your life experiences in a major way. Hypnosis and NLP provide a whole tool-kit of enabling and empowering skills which can help you to change your life for the better.

We've all heard it before - "if it we haven't thought of it then it isn't worth doing." "No one knows our business better than we do." This attitude is referred to as the "not invented here" syndrome. Consultants have seen it for years. Department managers and employees use it to fend off outside influence from other departments or intervention from consultants or advisors. "Not invented here" is a cliché. But like many clichés or popular beliefs, we tend to think there is truth in the statement. However, "not invented here", is a problem and it serves as a form of organizational resistance to change. "Not invented here" conveys an important message - "if I am not involved with defining the situation and working on solutions, then I am not interested in your ideas, opinions or solutions."

When an organization is facing a challenge, it has 3 options:
1. Do nothing
2. Understand the challenge and create solutions
3. Hire outside help to assess and facilitate the solutions.

Assuming that the challenge is real and that it presents a threat to the organization...
. Option One will lead to a further deterioration in organizational performance.
Using outside resources can be important for an organization, especially if the business leader believes that an objective third party may have broader experience in identifying potential solutions. The danger, however, is to engage a third party who has a one-size-fits-all solution. And it is this attitude that reinforces and solidifies the "not invented here" syndrome. In fact, run quickly from anyone that has a solution to your problem before they fully understand it.

When your organization is faced with a challenge, here are 7 steps you should take.

1.
At the beginning of 1991, Marshall Faulk was a wanted man - wanted by many of the nation's most prestigious football schools. He had just finished a stellar senior season as a star high school player in New Orleans, and college coaches were camped outside his front door 24/7.

Faulk had a rough childhood, growing up in one America's most notorious housing projects. As a youngster, football was his passion. From an early age, he was good at the game and caught the eyes of several college scouts. Recruiters courted him as a junior, and by the time he was tearing up the fields as a senior, scholarship offers were pouring in.

As 1991's National Signing Day drew nearer, Coach Tom Osborne and his staff at the University of Nebraska were high on Faulk and confident he soon would be wearing the Huskers' scarlet and cream. After all, Faulk liked Nebraska. So did his mother, his guidance counselor, and even his English teacher, who had a great deal of influence on him.

During an in-home visit, Osborne sensed he made a connection with Faulk and his family. As an experienced recruiter, Osborne knew when personalities "clicked" in a player's living room. There was no doubt in the coach's mind that Faulk felt good about Nebraska. In fact, Osborne admits that he thought it was almost a done deal - Faulk was practically on his way to Lincoln, Neb.

On National Signing Day, Marshall Faulk signed with San Diego State University, far away from and far less prestigious than the many football powerhouses that were courting him. Osborne was surprised.

"It turned out we had been recruiting him as a defensive back, which most people had," Osborne said. ‘But Marshall deep down always wanted to be a running back."

Of course, SDSU told Marshall they would be delighted to have him play running back, but with his blazing speed, Nebraska would have loved to have him in its backfield too. Faulk had the talent to excel on either side of the ball.

"Although we had been thorough, and we had done our home work," Osborne said, "we hadn't asked him a key question: ‘Marshall, which side of the ball do you want to play on?' That's why it's really important to do a lot of listening. I think we could have had Marshall Faulk if we had just recruited him as a running back."

The rest, as they say, is history. Faulk flourished at SDSU, running for 1,400 yards and scoring 23 touchdowns in just his freshman year. During a 13-year professional career, Faulk amassed 12,279 rushing yards and scored 136 touchdowns, some of the most impressive statistics in NFL history.

Surely, it must have been frustrating for Husker coaches watching Faulk's career from afar, knowing they came so close to signing him. It's a feeling that haunts many coaches.

It's a feeling that business people deal with too. Like football coaches, professionals must listen carefully to their "recruits" - their clients. How many deals does a salesperson lose, because he or she talks too much and doesn't respond to what the client really wants? How many star employees does a hiring manager miss out on, because he or she doesn't truly listen?

So remember, always ask your clients, "What side of the ball do you want to play on?" Then listen carefully to the answers.

Jeff Beals is an award-winning author, who helps professionals do more business and have a greater impact on the world through effective sales, marketing and personal branding techniques.
