She wanted me to be perfect and I bought into it totally. I imagine that the choice was made during some period when I was out of a body and just an energy - a soul - and decided that a good part of my path in this life would be to always try to be perfect, often fall very short and finally realize at age 66 that perfection is a mental box. It keeps creativity from entering.

Let's look at an example. Let's say I want perfect grooming. I try to figure out how to have my hair look perfect. I try to figure out how my nails should look to be considered perfect. I spend lots of effort figuring out how to dress, moisturize, deodorize and criticize myself into perfection. Does it work? Can I ever really know from my inner knowing how to dress myself so that I express who I am? Of course not! And I probably have cut off that connection of knowing - that part of myself in order to put myself in someone else's grooming and fashion box.
Let's look at another example. Let's say I want the perfect career but I don't know who I am or what my gifts really are and, once again, I have cut myself off from that inner knowing by spending so much time in my thinking-ego-mind that I'm even confused about what others think is the perfect career. Which others really know? Which others are universally judged to know about these things - perfectly. No one, of course. No one, that is, expect you.

You are the only expert on you that you need. How do you take those "cut off" parts of yourself back?
By: Louis Bonaventura
Category: Creativity

The power of innovation is a talent that everyone has, yet they don't they do. If you've ever marveled at somebody's creative prowess and thought to yourself, "I wish I could be like that." Guess what, you can create and innovate too! It just takes time. Everyone is born creative. The boxes of crayons in kindergarten were not limited to those who possessed potential. The truth is everybody has potential; it just needs to be nourished.

You know how long it took to learn to ride a bike or drive or to never commit the same mistake again? It's the same with innovation. It takes a bit of practice and a lot of time before this mind function comes easily when called. This article will teach you a few tips on how to bring innovation into your life.

Don't listen to what other people say. Follow the beat of your own drum. Jim Rohn says "Be unique!" Always allow for the input of other people, but don't allow it to bring disharmony to the masterpiece you are trying to create. If you have an original idea, don't waste your time and effort trying to make people understand. Usually they won't get it and the help you get will probably come in the form of negative feedback. If all those past geniuses listened to their peers, we would probably still be living in the middle ages.

Spend time on it. I can't stress this enough, although, please don't mistake this as me telling you to quit your day job. Don't! This involves some time management, but with a little discipline you'll be able to squeeze both in.

Exercise; take a walk, run a mile or two. Send all those endorphins coursing through your veins. Exercising certainly clears and relaxes your mind and allows for the creative juices to flow.

Record your dreams. Keep a notepad next to your bed on the nightstand. When you wake up, write down everything you remember from your dreams right away before you forget them!<span style"> Aren't some of them just the craziest things that your conscious mind would never have thought of? If you've had these dreams before, and I'm sure have, this only shows you the untapped innovative power you have lying within. So jot down those notes. Those dreams may just create an innovative spark in you.

Find your own style. You can always tell a Van Gogh from a Matisse. You'll know Hemingway wrote something by the choice of words on the paper. It's the same with all of us. People will appreciate your innovativeness more because it is uniquely yours and no one else would have thought what you were thinking. That will let people see what a valuable asset you are.

Don't hide behind nifty gadgets or tools. You don't need the most expensive set of paints to produce a masterpiece. The same way with writing. You don't need some expensive fountain pen and really smooth paper for a bestseller. In fact, J.K. Rowling wrote the first book of the Harry Potter Series on bits of tissue. So what if you've got an expensive SLR camera if you're a crappy photographer? Who cares if you've got a kick-butt laptop if you can't use it to its full potential? The experienced artist actually reduces the number of tools he has as he gets better at his craft: he knows what works and what doesn't.

Nothing will work without passion. What wakes you up in the mornings? What keeps the flame burning? What is the one thing that you'll die if you don't do? Sometimes people with talent are overtaken by the people who want it more. Ellen Degeneres once said that if you're not doing something that you want to do, then you don't really want to do it. And that's true. Sometimes you just want something so bad you become virtually unstoppable. And that is passion. Passion will keep you going, no matter what. You just have to want it bad enough.<span style"> Find your true passion and see how innovative you become trying to reach your goal!

Don't worry about inspiration. You can't force it. Inspiration hits when you least expect it.<span style"> You need to be prepared for those unpredictable, yet inevitable moments. An idea could strike you on the subway, yet alas, you poor unfortunate soul; you have no sheet of paper to scribble down a thought that could quite possibly change the world! Avoid these disasters; have a pen and paper within your arm's reach at all times.

I hope this article has helped you realize the innovative potential in your life. Keep in mind that you're doing these things for your own satisfaction and nobody else's. But soon, others will begin to take notice, and everything will snowball from there.<span style"> Just don't ever quit and don't ever, EVER let anybody steal your dreams!

By: Neoli Marcos
Category: Creativity

In our waking life, we go to places for a reason. We go to the cinema to watch a film (and possibly to hold hands with our date), we go to the park to take the day off and play a ballgame with friends (or ogle good-looking people), we go to the beach to dig our toes in the sand and take a dip in the waters (or again, ogle good-looking people). There is always a reason, one way or another.

In these days of busy lifestyle, few of us waste time going to places where we have no business. Which is why we should be thankful that when we dream, we have the luxury of going to places we have never been before.

And, just as in our waking life, it follows then that the places we go to in our dreams have an underlying meaning as well. Below is part two of dream interpretations of venues you find yourself in during your sleep.

Desert

Ordinarily, deserts are barren and lonely places. In a dream, they imply a state of being lost and wanting to arrive home or be found. But the great spaciousness and emptiness of the desert landscape can also be beneficial; it signals a silence and meditation your life may be needing.

Airplane
Airplanes symbolize flight, freedom, and escape from the mundane. So if you dream of being in an airplane, whether or not you have a fear of heights, it just means you need to face those fears of the unknown and be thankful for their possibilities. If you dream of being the pilot, then this is a good sign: it is an undertaking and journey which you have taken complete control of.

Backyard
Backyards are fenced-in spaces outside our houses which we don't want neighbors to see, or intruders to trespass. Thus, to dream of sweeping in a backyard, for instance, means you want to cleanse that part of you which you fear is laid bare to the public.

Bridge

Crossing a bridge means an inevitable transition in your life, a shift in lifestyle, belief, location, relationship, etc. Observe the sturdiness of the bridge, or if it shakes under your weight. Also, look at the water below if it's calm or treacherous, or if it is an abyss instead. All these are signs of your readiness to cross over.

Church
Church are obviously holy places, which in a dream means you are reevaluating your life and want to lead a more spiritual one. Dreams of being inside a church always is a sign of good luck. An alternative interpretation is that you are questioning authority in your life, as churches and religion in general operate on authority.

Kitchen
Kitchens in dreams evoke either hunger, not just for physical nourishment, but spiritual as well. If you dream of yourself cooking in a kitchen, filling the room with a warm, inviting aroma, it just means you are taking an active role in your life.

Hell
We all have our personal versions of hell, and it does not necessarily have to be the commonly-thought of underground place with burning sulfur and demons with spears. If you dream of being in a hellish place, you could be feeling guilt from a sin you may have committed, or else, it is a premature punishment you are imposing on yourself, even if you haven't really done anything wrong in the first place. Hell is a place of self-censorship, so take it easy on yourself.

Hospital
It depends whether you are the one confined in a hospital, or you are only visiting a sick friend. Hospitals in dreams are signs that make us aware of our mortality, and of course, our health. Also, a sense of authority and properness operates inside a hospital (uniforms, schedules, SOP's, dosages, doctor's orders, etc), and your little visit there in your dream implies a confrontation with authority you might be avoiding or looking forward to.

Field
Is it a barren field, or a lush green one? To dream of spacious fields imply a whole world of possibilities and potential for you, as if the ground is all prepared for new plantings. Then again, the saying "the grass is always greener on the other side" can also come into play here.

___________

A sleepwalking dream hunter, Neoli Marcos writes for PsychicGuild: online provider of free dream interpretation, horoscope, and accurate psychic and tarot card readings.

Article Source: Dream Interpretation of Places in Your Dreams [Part 2]

By: Emily Hanlon
Category: Creativity

Creativity is a mysterious journey that connects us to the unseen worlds. There was a time when all people had access to the unseen worlds, although it was the shamans, story tellers and healers who mediated between the worlds as they journeyed into the Mystery and interpreted the images found there. Today we have our contemporary journeyers into the cosmic unseen worlds--many creative people are such journeyers--but as a culture we have lost the connection to our instinctual nature. With the development of the human brain and the march of history, the pendulum has swung so far that an overwhelming majority of people do not consider the journey into the unseen worlds a possibility, much less a necessity.

It has become trite to say that modern society has lost its soul, but in truth, that's just what has happened. Soul is something that cannot be experienced in the outer world. It cannot be understood, evaluated, judged. Soul is the groundswell of the inner world, and the eyes with which we view the outer world are blind when turned inward. It is only with the eyes of the heart--the instinctual nature of our deep internal knowing--that we traverse the inner landscape and find our way to soul.

If our outer eyes are perceptive, however, and guided by our inner knowing, we can see the outcome of mystery. This happens when, for example, the invisible becomes suddenly visible, or the impossible becomes suddenly possible in ways that cannot be explained by the rational mind. Such things often happen on both a small and large scale, but in Western culture we are quick to attribute them to coincidence; if coincidence isn't sufficient, then the doubting Thomas is convinced it can "figure out" a rational explanation of the mystery.

How much richer life can be when we are open to Mystery. But to do this, we must be brave warriors of the spirit, with creativity as both our fire and our sword. I see Creative Soul Works as a community in which we support each other as we journey into the unseen worlds to bring back sacred knowledge. We support each other despite our fears and insecurities. We guide one another as we reclaim the role of mediator between the worlds.

What follows is a recent experience from my life in which the Mystery was revealed and, I believe, I unexpectedly became a mediator between the worlds.

About six months before my husband's beloved dog D'Art died, he had two dreams. In the first dream, D'Art ran off with a pack of dogs. My husband, Ned, feared he would never see D'Art again, but finally the pack reappeared. The first two dogs ran past him, neither of them D'Art. The third dog thankfully was. As D'Art raced in great joy he called out (in English!) "Dad, I went to my kingdom and it was so wonderful!"

In the second dream, about a month later, Ned was walking down a road when a pack of wild dogs raced by him. One wild dog broke suddenly from the pack and, looking up at Ned with great love, said, "I missed you as much as you missed me." My husband drew back in fear and wild dog ran off. When he woke up, he was very sad that he hadn't embraced Wild Dog. To this day, whenever he thinks of these dreams, tears come to his eyes.

About six months later, D'Art became seriously ill. When the decision to ease his passing was made, the vet, who is a family friend, came to the house. It was about 8 pm on a lovely summer evening. Any thoughts of Wild Dog and D'Art's kingdom were far away. We were grieving for the loss of D'art, and I was concerned about the impact D'art's passing was having on my husband. But we knew the time had come, and Ned, myself, my son and the vet formed an ad hoc circle around D'Art.

I saw this circle of connection forming as Ned placed his hands on D'Art. I knelt by his side with one hand on Ned and another on D'Art. My son had his hands on D'Art. The vet administered the drug into D'Art with one hand while laying her other hand on D'Art. We were all connected through D'Art, who slipped into blessed calm as the vet administered a sedative. We sat in the deep silence of the unfolding mystery, and finally, the vet quietly asked Ned if he was ready. Ned nodded and within seconds D'Arty was gone.

Relieved by the stillness and the knowing that D'Art's suffering was at an end, I closed my eyes. It was then that the inner world flew open. Instantly I saw a pack of dog spirits racing across a sun-drenched field. D'Art, freed of a sick body, was bounding with the energy of a pup. He was racing to join his pack, and all of a sudden he turned toward me and sat, as if waiting. Our eyes met and I saw that gleefully naughty expression D'Art wore when he was about to take off for parts unknown in the outer reality. But this time, he seemed to hesitate, and I felt he was asking me if it was all right to go. I nodded and called to him, "Safe journey, Darty! We love you!"

He looked at me one last time with such love and joy, then was on his feet and off and running with his pack of wild spirits, most assuredly to his kingdom! This was very real for me, but not something I felt Ned, our son or the vet would let in, and so I said nothing. We finally decided it was time to continue with the burial. Ned wrapped D'Art in a sheet and carried him out to the grave my son had dug. It was a very big grave. D'Art, a Rhodesian Ridgeback, weighed almost 100 pounds.

Ned laid him in the grave, we all said our goodbyes and began to shovel in the dirt. That's when we heard the first howl.

We live in the country, on a mountain, and there are only a few other houses near by, none of which had dogs. The howling was clearly coming from the woods that abuts our property. Now, however, there was not one but several dogs howling. It was an eerie, otherworldly sound and we all stopped and listened.

"Those aren't dogs," I said.

"Coyotes," said my son.

"Really?" asked the vet. She listened again and nodded. "Yes, I think they are coyotes. Do you often hear them?"

"No," I said. "There are coyotes around but we've never seen or heard them."

The whole time we were burying D'Art, the howling continued, its song rising and falling. No one spoke. We were connected by this call of the wild. We haven't heard or seen another dog, much less a coyote, on the mountain since that night.

Were these coyotes? Were they wild dogs from Ned's dreams? Had D'Art run into the wild of spirit with them? Were they welcoming him home? Thoughts such as these don't hold much interest for me; rather I am honored to have been a part of this mysterious opening. Even my husband and son, who are staunch believers in the what you see is what you get world, remain awed by this event. We don't speak about it often.

My family is fortunate to live in a place where silence and nature are ready companions. The most noise we hear are the birds, occasionally the neighbor's children, a lawn mower, snow blower, or helicopter, and the distant hum of a nearby parkway where no trucks are allowed. I feel certain that having the privilege of having the vet come to the house, of being by ourselves on the mountain on a serene summer evening, are part of what made this experience possible. Perhaps D'Art's spirit and I, with my comfort in the unseen and my absolute belief in the power of creativity to mediate between the worlds, became the necessary mediators that night.

Emily Hanlon is a novelist of seven works of fiction and a book on the creative writing process.
By: Emily Hanlon is a novelist of seven works of ficti
Category: Creativity

Being the Rose Fall into the beauty of a rose and know yourself. If you cannot love yourself you will not be the rose.

We walk half asleep, experiencing only a small part of our creative passion, insight and being. Our vision is by the eyes of the mind, which are cast outwards. Creativity, however, is birthed in the cosmic landscape of the inner world, a place to which the mind's eyes are blind, a place belonging to the vision of the heart and soul. The question is, how do we awaken to the immensity of knowing contained within.

One way is through nature. Nature, fully noticed, and entered into with the wonderment of children, gains us admittance into the unseen world. Another way is through our writing or other creative endeavors, but this has limitations. First, this entry is often sporadic. Second, our creativity tends to disappear as soon as we put aside our creative endeavor. Nature, on the other hand, is a natural guide. She is a primal image for creativity, so majestic that even the Inner Critic dares not challenge her! She infuses us in unseen ways. Often by being one with nature, the inner world embraces both our creative efforts and our daily life while shifting our perception of our place in the world.

In thinking about this, I came up with an exercise that I call Being the Rose. I chose the word being with great deliberation... Think about it... how being the rose differs from the image and feel of becoming...observing...considering the Rose.

The Exercise:

Look at the photograph of the rose above or find any flower, it doesn't have to be a rose, and gaze into it until you feel yourself falling out of yourself and into the essence of the rose. This is akin to falling from the your mind's eyes into your heart's eyes.

Now dwell on this statement for a minute or two or ten:

The most creative force in existence is nature...

Your first response will likely be a thought that comes from your conscious mind. Let this thought go, then repeat the statement, The most creative force in existence is nature...

Allow the sense of these words to move an idea into a feeling. (You cannot do this through your mind. Only the inner landscape whose entry is through the heart will work.) Allow images to rise up from the unconscious. Do not hold on to any particular image. Let it float away and watch new ones arise.

Now open to the scent of the rose... Become the scent...

Open to the seeing if the rose... Become the seeing...

Open to the sound of the rose... Become the sound...

Open to the feel of the rose... Become the sensations...

Open to the taste of the rose... Become the taste...

Ask yourself, "When is the last time I allowed nature to share her creativity with me?"

"When is the last time I gave myself over to nature?"

"When was the last time nature stirred me to passion, quietude, ecstasy?"

Now sit down and write. Write without thought. Write without expectation....

Write or simply be...

Emily Hanlon is a novelist of seven works of fiction and a book on the creative writing process.

By: Patrick C.
Category: Creativity

No matter what you have been hearing what others have been telling you, the creatvity process is not a process so complex, that common folks like you and I cannot understand it.

Neither is the creative process a highly mysterious one which is practiced only by those who are blessed with natural creative talents. You can understand and even experience, perhaps for the first time, the practical steps of creativity that great thinkers use to come up with great ideas.

Simply put, the whole creative thinking process can be distilled down to five stages or phases of creativity.Phase 1: Problem Identification/Definition

The primary impetus of creativity is the realization of a problem.

That there's a problem at hand and you need a creative solution to it. This stage of the creative problem solving process is called the Problem Identification or Definition phase. It's when you size up the problem before and attempt to define it by establishing its parameters.

Here you immerse yourself in the problem, searching out any information that might be relevant. You let your imagination roam free, open yourself to anything that is even vaguely relevant to the problem.

The idea is to gather a broad range of data so that unusual and unlikely elements can begin to juxtapose themselves. Being receptive, being able to listen openly and well, is a crucial skill here.Phase 2: Idea Generation

Here, you generate a large number of ideas.

This stage of the creative thinking process should be freeing and characterized by inspiration, spontaneity, experimentation, intuition and without fear.

It is at this stage that you want to be careful about not judging the validity or feasibility of your ideas. Let your ideas flow and suspend judgment or self-censorship for the moment.

Great thinkers have discovered that they can only achieve their full creative potential by learning how to separate idea generation from idea evaluation. They know how to generate as many ideas as possible way before analyzing them.Phase 3: Incubation

This is the "sleeping on the problem" stage.

Once you have mulled over all the relevant information, you leave the problem to simmer. At this Incubation stage, you chew on all the data you have collated and wait almost passively.

You will have to trust your subconscious mind to do all the work. You literally let your mind "sleep on the problem."Phase 4: Illumination

This is probably the most exciting phase.

It's that part of the creativity process that seemingly makes all the effort and work worthwhile.

In this Illumination phase, you'll experience the sudden bubbling up of the answer. The creative solution or solutions seem to come to you out of the blue.

The Illumination stage is generally described as the "Eureka!" moment.Phase 5: Verification

This is the final stage of the dynamic creativity process.

Called the Verification stage, here you look back over the other phases and evaluate your progress.

By: Patrick C.
Category: Creativity

It was Henry Ford who said, "Whether you believe you can, or whether you believe you can't, you're absolutely right."
So if you believe you are creative, you'll be creative. And if you believe you are not, you'll be not. But the good news is, we are all born creative!
The main cause, if you are still not, is you have NOT believed that you are. Of course, there are also other factors hindering our creativity.
One of them is you don't need to be creative most of the time. Most of what you do does not require you to think differently. Take for example, walking to the grocery store. Or standing in line at the checkout counter at the supermarket. Or simply commuting to work. None of these activities you do every day engages your creative brain in a way different or provides stimulation to evoke creative thoughts. The outcome is that you become a creature of habit and habit-bound thinking is simply uncreative!
The second cause why you are not creative is you have not been taught how to be - yet. Just look at our typical educational system and you'll observe that it has become a "guess what the teacher is thinking" game. Many of us have been lied to. We have been told that the best of ideas reside not in our heads but in someone's else's! And then there is the problem with ourselves - our attitudes. Most of us have certain attitudes that lock us into a status quo and prevent us from thinking something new or different. These inhibiting attitudes are important to help us live our lives but they truly get in the way when we are attempting to be creative and think out of the box.
